Susanna Evins

I live tucked away near the glacial mountains of Alaska, and I have to say that a lot of inspiration comes from what I see in my own backyard -- rivers, the breeze, trees, rain, wildlife, rocks, hearing Jesus, music, as well as being a stay-at-home mother with two girls. My grandmother used to make clothing for my siblings and I, and so did my mom. Handmade clothing was always around, and a dress would last through three girls. That says a lot for the durability, though since I was the youngest, I hated how the dresses would be faded by the time I got them. That's one of the reasons I love hemp so much---it doesn't fade and it gets wonderfully softer with time. I choose only to use organic hemp as my main fiber, but have it blended with silks, cotton, and other great natural fibers.

I have always had a love for clothing design, especially things that are symbolic. Having a clothing/design business makes me feel like I have more to give my girls (besides handmade natural clothing). And I feel healthier because I am able to express my imagination on my own canvas, cloth, turning my inward thoughts into a useable, durable, unique piece of clothing. I take a lot of pride in my work. In fact, I love the whole process, from what color of dye (Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes) I will use, to how I want the fabric to fill for each pattern I design.

Enjoy!! And thank you for all your support. Blessings ;)
