Toni Root

My name is Toni Root. I am a retired middle school art teacher who now has time to do her own art work. I have been painting on silk for about 15 years now and I love the medium. Silk has such a lovely sheen. lately I have been doing primarily the Devore satin scarves and they are very popular. I love the variety of designs and how they take the color. People are amazed at the effect that is created when I use several colors of dye. The two fibers absorb the color differently and each one is unique. I use Procion dyes primarily and the Dye-na-Flow paints when I do direct painting on the silk. My latest experiment is creating marbelized scarves, hats and other items by floating the paints on the caragheenan medium.
I have an art and craft day once a week for my grandkids and they agreed that the marbelizing was the best project we ever did!
I am inspired by other artists and especially those I see on the Dharma website. I always enjoy trying the new techniques and products displayed.
