Spirit of the Artisan
Gale Carson is a lifelong textile lover, traveler, and creative entrepreneur whose passion for fiber arts has taken her across the globe. As the former owner of Spirit of the Artisan, Gale spent years traveling throughout Bali and Thailand, building relationships with master artisans, textile collectors, dyers, weavers, and craftspeople. These connections have provided her with rare opportunities to explore traditional textile techniques and immerse herself in some of the world's richest textile cultures.
For the past three years, Gale has shared these experiences by leading small-group textile tours to Bali and Thailand, offering participants hands-on workshops and behind-the-scenes access to local artisans. Through batik, natural dyeing, weaving, embellishment, and cultural exploration, travelers gain a deeper appreciation for both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary textile arts.
Inspired by the artists she met abroad, Gale recently embarked on her own dyeing journey and has enthusiastically embraced the creative possibilities of color, surface design, and textile transformation. While she describes herself as an eager student of the craft, her experiences studying with master artisans have fueled a continuing passion for learning and creating.
Gale believes that travel, creativity, and cultural connection have the power to inspire artistic growth in profound ways. Through her tours and textile adventures, she aims to connect fellow artists, makers, and fiber enthusiasts with authentic experiences that spark creativity, build community, and celebrate the artistry of textile traditions around the world.
Based in Arizona, Gale will lead her last immersive textile tours to Bali and Thailand October 2027, sharing her love of fiber arts, cultural discovery, and lifelong learning with fellow creatives.
