Old Bernie’s Tie Dye

Oh hey! It’s Meg from Old Bernie’s, I remember as a kid, dreaming about having a Tie Dye booth at this street festival my family used to go to, and now I get to do it and I’m in love! I started out as a hair stylist right out of high school, and I believe that knowledge of colour has influenced me greatly as a Tie Dye Artist. My passion is to thrift natural fibre articles and then up-cycle them with Tie Dye. Since I only work with thrifted items, I can’t guarantee it starts out white, most of what I dye is coloured already.
I do a lot of experiments too, I have been picking one colour of Dharmas Fibre Reactive Dye and then choosing multiple items with all different base colours to test it on. An example would be when I tried Warrior Princess I chose 5 different base colours, pink, blue, grey, yellow and white. First I SAS, then DUI and I was happily surprised with the results. Other times it’s been a flop but I regularly go through my experiments when I want inspiration for a certain base color. I have a tiktok specifically for those experiments and have before and after pictures.
I am constantly creating and trying new techniques and colour combos. It’s been a blast.
