Hi,

We are writing to you because you have purchased our Fiber Reactive Dye #250 Jet Black in the past. We don't want to bother you, but we did want to keep you advised of some changes regarding this dye in case it is important to you.

The cost of the raw materials used to make #250 has gone up dramatically. For example, a 2 oz jar that is $5.95 would become $8.95. Too expensive! So we will discontinue it. Luckily, we have developed another hot water Fiber Reactive black as a replacement and it looks good! Real good! It is a more "neutral" black than the Jet Black was, really nice!

We are calling it a whole new color," #275 - Hot Black". Yes, it is a powdered concentrate, just like our other Fiber Reactive Dyes, and you use it exactly the same way as you did the Jet Black, in HOT (~140°F) water, with extra salt if you are using it in a dye bath. A possible exception to that is that we actually did tie-dye with it and got a pretty nice black with very little color bleed. We did not heat the curing area either, just did it the same as any other tie-dye, i.e. ambient temperature of 70°F or higher. That is exciting, as the Jet Black yields everything from green to brown to grey when tie-dyed at normal ambient temperatures. So this is definitely a color that tie-dyers need to get their hands on! It dyed silk a super dark brown, almost black, when we used it with Soda Ash. Using vinegar and heat, this new black dyed silk dark black and wool a lighter shade of black, which are the best results we have ever received on silk or wool with a fiber reactive black.

So this email has two purposes:

1. To let you know we are discontinuing Fiber Reactive #250, Jet Black, but that we have 300+ lbs still available at the old price. Buy it now if you want some! We have no plans to re-order at this time.

2. To let you know that we are introducing the new hot water Fiber Reactive Black - #275 Hot Black, and that for a limited time, you can add a 1 oz free sample to you order to give it a try. We won't be mailing them separately (just too expensive, and the post office looks askance at envelopes containing powders), but to add one to an order, just use the code "PR275-sample". Dye it at 7.5% OWG, or consider that the 1 oz sample will dye ~1/2 lb fabric in a dye bath or make ~1 oz of liquid concentrate for tie-dye.

That's it.

Be well.
