Artist Bio / Statement
Janet Lehwalder is a silk artist working in the Pacific Northwest.
She has gone two directions with her silk painting. In watercolor - style Fine Art Paintings, she often works from photographs and shows moments of beauty or heart-connection that she wants to revisit again and again. She also does Silk Comforters, in which the designs are more abstract. The front and back panels are handpainted and then machine quilted along the design lines.
She uses both Jacquard Green Label and Tinfix dyes. Most early work was chemically set and has held up well, but she now has a big steamer which increases the washability of the Comforters. Silk Twill is the fabric of choice for the Paintings and the Comforters, and she has done scarves and other projects on a variety of other silks.
Janet also teaches many classes and has introduced Silk Painting to hundreds of adults and kids in the Pacific Northwest. It is great to be able to say with confidence, "Just call Dharma," when these people want supplies that aren't readily available in many areas.
