Featured Artist : Rebecca Stier

Artist Bio / Statement
Rebecca has dabbled in art since she was a young child and began designing and drawing around seven years old. She had always wanted to learn to paint and finally took her first art class in 2001, while studying at Delaware County Community College with Jean Ryan. She continued studying painting at the Wallingford Community Arts Center with Jane Miluski and drawing with John Meehan.
Rebecca has been interested in fiber, and especially the art of batik. Three years ago, while at an art demonstration, she was introduced to the use of fiber reactive dyes on silk at the art guild. Later that year, she needed a scarf to complete an outfit and her new excitement has flourished. She began her study of dyes on silk and is currently selling her silks around the Country in boutiques and at shows and online and designs pieces for clients. The silks range in sizes from 12 x 90 to 44 x 44, are hand washable, and are painted with fiber reactive dyes from Procion and Jacquard and some are embellished with dress makers glitters and sequence and fabric paints.
Her interests in art are diverse, and she primarily works in watercolors, fiber reactive dyes on silk, and with clay. Rebecca is excited about life and uses vibrant colors to express her passion. She enjoys the interplay of elements on fabric, paper and yupo. Her creations often are an experiment and use non-conventional methods and products to create her pieces. The shore, the country, the flowers, the birds, and nature generally inspire her art, and she tends to be whimsical, lighthearted, and abstract in her presentation of her art, while she strives to be uplifting.
Color excites her, especially the interplay of elements and their color on paper, on yupo, and on fabric. She paints each piece one at a time, no mass productions, all works are originals, all are painted in the USA, and no screen printing is used. She hopes you enjoy her art as much as she enjoys creating each piece. Her silk creations are being marketed in various locations around the United States.
Rebecca’s paintings with watercolors on paper or yupo range in size from tiny to 3'x4' to accommodate her subject.
Rebecca grew up at the shore in New Jersey, has two grown children, five grand-children, and an affectionate feline, and she is an avid gardener (and has won three awards for backyard gardening), a runner, a dancer, and is looking forward to taking voice lessons.
