Gay Young Ousley

Gay Young Ousley is a Fiber Artist who has been in love with fabric since teaching herself to sew at age nine. She is inspired by the wide-open spaces of her native West Texas and the rocks and mountains of Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. Primarily known for landscapes, she is now branching out into more non-representational work. Gay's work has been shown in museums and galleries throughout the region and several pieces have toured nationally, including her quilt for the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.
She enjoys teaching her Landscape Interpretation class. Gay enjoys working with both silk and cotton from Dharma, using Procion dyes and paints from Jacquard, Speedball, and Setasilk. Urea, Soda Ash, and Sodium Alginate are used with the dyes and Dharma's detergent washes away the excess. Gay also uses soy wax and Shiva Paintstiks in her work, carves stamps onto linoleum blocks, and discharges with Thiox.
