Jessica Kaufman

My name is Jessica Kaufman, and I am the owner and creator of WAXON Batik & Dye Studio in Asheville, NC. I help people of all ages to make their own garment dyed, one-of-a-kind creations from upcycled clothing or new clothing. We are an open studio in downtown Asheville, offering classes and workshops in batik, ice dyeing, classic tie dye, and shibori methods. We also do tie-dye birthday parties! I make tie-dyed and batik garments to sell at area tailgate markets and festivals. My inspiration for creating was my 16 years of experience at an overnight summer camp in the Appalachian mountains, teaching the tie-dye and batik classes in an open air cabin on a mountainside. That experience also inspired me to earn my Masters degree in Crafts Education! Watching children and their parents fall in love with the dyeing process is what led me to open this new business, WAXON studio (as of May 2016!). I use Dharma's fiber reactive dyes, of course!
