Hi, my name is Kathy Davis, and I am the owner of a silk design business called Kayla Originals. I first became interested in silk painting a few years ago when I took a few classes, and also from reading books, such as Silk Painting for Fashion and Fine Art. I was dissatisfied with the commercial fabrics that were being produced, and wanted to create something different. Once you paint on silk, there is no turning back! The luxuriousness of the silk causes the colors to flow together like a watercolor painting. For more control, I use products that Dharma sells, such as No Flow or the Pebeo Water Based Resists.

I purchase all my silk wearables from Dharma -- silk ties, scarves, camisoles, and chemises. These are painted with the Procion Dyes, and I use urea and soda ash with them. For the ties that cannot be immersed - I use Neopaque, Lumiere, Seta Silk and Dye-Na-Flow silk paints. I buy all my brushes and also Synthrapol from the catalog. Synthrapol washes out the excess dye.
