I got hooked on tie-dye about 12 years ago when I finally discovered Procion dyes at Dharma Trading Co. I started out dyeing and selling small items, such as Onesies, mainly because they were so small and easy to work with. Lately, however, I have been striving to improve my artwork, making designs with layered colors, depth, and texture (see the heart wall hanging in my photos). Along with Procion dyes, urea, and soda ash, I use mercerized PFD muslin, and sodium alginate thickener (for special effects).
My inspiration is simple: I love working with color! Also, I am always excited to untie a design and see how it turned out -- it is always a surprise!
