Molly Thurmon

Hi, I'm Molly! I'm a tie dye artist from Columbia, Missouri. My tie dye journey started as many do – in childhood. I have fond memories of purchasing tie dye kits and dying any white clothing my friends and I could find. Fast forward to 2021 and I had a hankering to try tie dye with a little more research and better dyes (dharma dyes!). Within a few projects, I was hooked. Eager to share my work with others, I added some tie dye clothing to all of my friend's and families closets. As I quickly accumulated more tie dye than any one human needs, I decided to launch Mocomo Studio.

I draw inspiration from the people around me – mostly my friends and family, and other artists. I especially enjoy creating for people I know well and trying to capture colors that fit them. It is always a challenge when someone asks me for a specific color combination or pattern, but I love experimenting and trying palettes that I might otherwise exclude. I mostly use ice dye – applying powder dye directly to the fabric and covering it with ice. Each time the colors blend and split differently.

I exclusively use Dharma's fiber reactive dyes in my work – and lots of Dharma's dyeables! I enjoy dying dresses, shirts, baby clothes and tapestries. I like to experiment with different styles every time I order from dharma, but some of my favorites are the Y-Front Swing Dress and the Slubby Jersey Swing Dress. I wash out all my dyes with Dharma's Professional Textile Detergent, and I always keep urea and Sodium Alginate on hand for liquid dyes. I appreciate that Dharma is my one stop shop for all things tie dye!
