Use With

Aluminum Acetate is a mordant used primarily for cellulose and bast fibers such as cotton, linen, hemp, rayon, and other plant based fibers. Commonly used in natural textile dyeing, it helps prepare cellulose fibers for improved dye uptake and stronger color attachment when working with botanical dyes.

For best results, use in combination with a cellulose scour to properly prepare fibers before mordanting and dyeing. Aluminum acetate is often paired with tannin treatments and is ideal for use with natural dyes including:
madder, annatto, marigold, pomegranate, weld, and other plant dyes.

When mordanting cotton or other cellulose fibers, aluminum acetate should be fixed to the fiber prior to dyeing using wheat bran or calcium carbonate.

Suggested usage: Use at approximately 5–10% WOF (weight of fiber) depending on desired shade depth and project requirements.

Coverage: 100 g of Aluminum Acetate is enough to mordant approximately 2000 g (4.4 lbs) of fiber at a 5% usage rate.
