USE FOR: Solid color dyeing, single color tie dye, direct application
USE ON: Polyester, nylon, acrylic, modacrylic, plastics, and more

New Polyester Colors! Neon Yellow, Neon Pink, Neon Green, Magenta, Berry, Navy, Teal and Aqua!

iDye Poly is a game changer when it comes to coloring polyester. And it doesn't stop there, plastics, nylon, buttons, frisbee discs, Worbla and Thibra, 3D prints, toys, dolls, wigs, cleats, urethane coatings, if it's synthetic, there's a good chance iDye Poly will color it. A must have for cosplay artists.
Each packet holds 14g of pure dye powder, no fillers, plus a Color Intensifier for polyesters. One packet covers 2-3 lbs of fabric for lighter shades, double up for black or more intense color. When dyeing 100% polyester iDye Poly needs the sustained high heat of a rolling boil (212°F/100°C), so skip the washing machine or bucket dyeing methods.

*Keep in mind, not all Polyesters and Nylons are created equal, and not all will dye as desired ...or even at all! Be sure to read our instructions below to see how to use iDye Poly and whether it will work for your situation.

New Polyester Colors!  Neon Yellow, Neon Pink, Neon Green, Magenta, Berry, Navy, Teal and Aqua!

24 colors for polyesters and nylons. Each iDye Poly packet contains 14 grams of pure dye powder (no fillers like grocery or drug store dyes) and a little iDye Color Intensifier (only used for polyesters). For lighter colors one packet will dye 2 to 3 pounds of fabric. For the black, darker colors, or more intense color Jacquard recommends that twice the amount of iDye be used. Avoid using washing machines or bucket dyeing with iDye Poly as 100% polyester dyeing demands the sustained high heat of a rolling boil (212°F/100°C) to work effectively. Poly blends or nylons can be dyed at slightly lower temperatures but still preform best in sustained temps too high for your average washing machine to reach or maintain.

In our experience iDye Poly worked fine on our nylon fabric and a polyester garment one of our employees had, as long as we kept the heat consistent on the stove. But do keep in mind, not all Polyesters and Nylons are not created equal - some are made to be dyed and a few aren't. It has to do with patents, treatments, and molecular structure. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell by tags or by looking. If it's important you just have to TEST first.

iDye Poly For Synthetic Fabrics Instructions

Which Dye Should I Use?

  • for 100% natural fabrics (cottonrayonsilk, etc.) use iDye For Natural Fabrics.
  • for 100% polyester, nylon or other synthetics use iDye Poly for Synthetic Fabrics **IMPORTANT - some polyesters and nylons just won't take dye - we don't know why. Most will, but some won't. You just have to TEST!
  • for polyester or nylon/natural blends use iDye Natural and the corresponding or closest color of iDye Poly.

For best results:

  • Pre-wash garment to remove any sizings, softeners, finishes, grease and oils, etc. (Dharma Dyer's Detergent works well for this.)
  • Use the stove top method and double the iDye for dark colors (black, brown or olive) or very intense colors (bright yellow, reds, etc.)
  • Use constant agitation for uniform color.
  • Wash finished garments with like colors in cool water.

Note: Utensils and pots for dyeing should never be used for food.
Use iDye Poly in a well ventilated area. Electric hot plates can come in handy for outdoor dyeing setups.

Stove top method:

1. Fill a stainless steel or enamel pot with just enough hot water for the fabric to move freely. Turn on high heat.

2. Add the iDye Poly soluble dye packet to water and stir.
Only use the included Color Intensifier packet when dyeing polyester.

3. Add pre-washed, wet garments or fabric and raise temperature.
For nylons or delicate synthetic blends keep the heat at a simmer, around 185°F / 85°C, as higher temps may cause shrinkage or melting.
For 100% polyesters maintain a rolling boil with dye, intensifier, and fabric for 30 to 60 minutes.

4. Maintain temperature and stir frequently for ½ hour (or up to an hour for darker colors).

5. Rinse, then wash the garment in cool water and a mild detergent.
Dye bath is safe to pour down drain/septic systems.

For Polyester or Nylon/natural fiber blends:

1. Choose an iDye Poly color closest to the iDye For Natural Fabrics color you are dyeing and add both packets to dye bath.

2. Follow stove top method. Allow dye mixture to come to a simmer for ½ to 1 hour. Since you are using 2 packets, keep in mind you could dye twice as much fabric.
