Artist Bio / Statement
I fell in love with the art of tie dye in 1995. I attended a music festival where an elder hippie was making a few shirts. I stood and watched for hours. He asked if I wanted to learn how, of course I said yes and the rest is history.
Art has been a part of my life since I was pretty young. I'd always be painting, drawing or creating something. Some of the other forms of art I enjoy are jewelry making, sketching, fluid art, wreath making, floral design, macrame and I am also a chef creating beautiful plates of food.
Tie dye became my creative outlet when depression, anxiety or PTSD reared their ugly heads. It became a safe place. In those tough moments is where my best work comes from because I completely submerge myself into the project.
I have created my own fold called The Cuddle Spiral. It's a design that is meant to reflect the joining, result or reaction of 2 things coming together. It can represent a relationship, transformation, transition or 2 things that mean something to you. I am the only one that makes this design as, for now, I've chosen to keep it's process mostly concealed because the design can have such powerful meaning for the wearer.
Geodes are my second favorite. Rocks, minerals and gemstones are another love if mine. Geodes are so versatile and there's really no rules when it comes to pattern. Using earth tones for geodes is my wheelhouse.
I also love putting colors together that don't necessarily go together. Tie dye is an art that wants experimentation done, it's expected and is the only way this art keeps evolving....because we keep experimenting.
Liquid was my method for a long time. Then I learned about ice dyeing and that is where my love for this art became a true love and true passion. HWI is another fun method that I enjoy using.
