Artist Bio / Statement
I started painting on silk in the 1980s when I lived in Fairfax, Ca. My neighbor was a seamstress, and she wanted me to try and paint on some silk yardage she needed to sew for a client (I was painting in oils on canvas). Once I experienced the incredible potential of silk and the vivid colors of the various dyes and paints, I was curious to keep experimenting long after my neighbor's fabric was painted. I especially love to paint angels, flower divas, and other celestial beings on the etheric fabric of silk. Painting on silk is like painting on a cloud!
I started out using Procion dyes, and loved the colors, but I now am using Setasilk and am very happy with the colors and the results, and I don't have to steam set anymore. Other products I am using are Lumiere and Pearl Ex pigments, and I am adding rhinestones. I'm still learning and experimenting, and will continue to do so, as there is so very much to learn about this artform. I order all my supplies from Dharma Trading. Thank you Dharma Trading for your wonderful supplies and customer service :-) I love your store!
Since all of the paintings I create on silk are of an etheric or spiritual nature, I am offering these pieces on my website www.spirit-sisters.com or at shops such as Healing Arts in Stinson Beach. These pieces are displayed in meditation halls, churches, counseling centers, hospitals, orphanages, and private homes (for personal altars). They are meant to elevate the vibrations of the rooms in which they are displayed. Every year since these images first started manifesting, a certain percentage of them are given away to individuals experiencing extreme grief, to trauma centers, and to other places of great need.
