Hello, I'm Ron Gutman... a silk painter. I've been painting on silk for many, many years. Prior to that, I had worked in traditional batik. I've been in the arts my entire life and have worked in several various design fields during my career.
Inspiration for my work is diverse... nature being foremost. I am intrigued with design and color, and silk painting is one of my most satisfying mediums, with the traditional gutta serti technique being favored.
Dharma Trading Co. has been supplying me with various art supplies since the 1980s. For the majority of my work these days, I use several brands of dyes: Dupont, Sennelier Tinfix, and Jacquard. For silk scarves, I normally work on chiffon, flat crepe and crepe de chine. For framed pieces, 10mm to 12mm habotai or crepe de chine. Other supplies are chemicals, tools, silk yardage etc. Dharma - a textile artist's best friend!
