Using COLORHUE dyes is easy, fast and efficient because they require no setting procedures like heat, curing, or chemicals, and there is no powder mixing. The only additive needed is plain tap water to dilute the concentrated liquid colors to the desired shade.
COLORHUE is a concentrated dye — approximately 15 to 20 drops of the concentrated dye in a 1/2 cup of water will make a medium color. But do not expect to acheive the results that artists achieve with professional silk dyes and steaming. Black is the most difficult color - more of a maroony eggplant. Great for beginners and classes, quick projects.

Works well on silk, wool, and we even got instant color on some celulose fibers like cotton, rayon, linen and hemp, but we recommend testing!

They worked as promised. Better on the silk than on the felted wool, but I was able to get deep colors using a more concentrated amount of dye. This has changed my whole approach to dyeing silk.

I have been using Colorhue dyes for years. They are great for silk - truly instant set, no steaming or cooking required. I've taught a lot of silk dyeing classes with it - great for kids. It's more expensive than the acid dyes that use heat but for some applications it is definitely worth it.

I just purchased these after doing a quick local lesson. I love this, it works exactly as I wanted it to do. I can control depth of color and obtain results that astonish myself. Thank-you

I tried using colorhue on silk and the colors seemed much brighter on the silk than when I used it on rayon. I found that the color seemed vivid, but after drying them I rinsed the fabrics again to see if the vivid color remained. It seemed that each of the fabrics were a shade lighter after rinsing. I was surprised because I thought that the colors were supposed to be colorfast. I also used Presist on the colorhue dyed and dried silk fabric. I drew a design on the fabric with Presist and then I used Dynaflow paints to color in my design. I dried the paint and then ironed it to set the colors. When I rinsed the silk fabric to remove the Presist, to my surprise the Presist had removed the colorhue dye from the areas where the Presist had been!!! I thought that Colorhue was supposed to be permanent! It turns out that the darker hues of color are removed from the drawings when I used the Presist. I did not use any other resist, so I don't know if the problem is with the Colorhue or with the Presist. I guess if you don't mind having a light outline around your design, then all is well. One of my samples resulted in looking quite nice.

Perfect for what it does: These are the what I use for small pieces, and instant gratification. I've had best luck with 6" to one foot square, simple dyeing in paper cups. I get very quick feedback on processes like resists, mixing and removing color. I can take that knowledge to larger pieces, bigger dye vats and more complicated processes.

I was a little disappointed with some of the colors such as brown and black they did not look brown or black more like purple and can't really describe the brown.

Great product. I am new to dyes of any kind. I must say that a major "plus" is that this is a time saver and simple to use with no prep time. However, not sure if these dyes will fade or remain as vibrant with time as do regular dyes. Also, the price is a bit high but perhaps could have saved a lot of money and not bought all the tools/supplies needed for mixing regular dyes. Well, I still vote 5.

I'm still playing with them, I recommend the video as the written instructions are not informative enough. These dyes exhaust like nothing else and for me the visual intro was necessary.
