Tie-Dye Chemicals 

There are many materials associated with Tie-Dye. Some are essential, some are very helpful, and some just make the whole process more fun. Chemicals tend to be a part of the "helpful" and "essential" catagories but if you find yourself having fun with them, don't panic.

The required chemicals you simply can't or shouldn't use our Fiber Reactive Dye without are:

    Soda Ash Fixer (#FIX) - makes the dye permanent - don't leave home without it!
    Urea (#UREA) - helps dissolve the dye and keep moisture in to aid the chemical reaction.
    Synthrapol (#SYN) - best for washing out extra dye and keeping your white parts white!

Required to 'fix' or 'make permanent' Dharma Fiber Reactive Dyes.
Urea

Used for tie-dye or direct application with Fiber Reactive Dyes -helps dissolve and yield brighter colors.
Synthrapol Detergent

Synthrapol is used as both a pre-wash and as an after-wash. A "must have" for dyers! New - low foam available.
Reduran Hand Cleaner

The best hand cleaner out there for removing dyes.
Dharma's Dyehouse Color Remover
Dharma's Dyehouse Color Remover
Removes or "discharges" dye from whole pieces of fabric. Also used in "reverse" tie-dye or shibori of an already dyed garment. Used in Indigo dyeing as well.

Liquid wetting agent increases evenness of dyeing.
Superclear

Thickens any liquid dye solution when you need to apply it like a paint. Easy to use, no fussing, no danger of lumps.

Dharma Dye Fixative
Dharma Dye Fixative
Increases dye washfastness, resistance to perspiration staining and seawater fading. Used to "fix" fugitive dye so fabrics won't bleed in future. Enhances the actions of Soda Ash for darker Fiber Reactive colors in the dyebath technique.

Liquid textile softener which restores the soft feel to fabrics that dyeing sometimes removes.
Sodium Alginate Thickener
Sodium Alginate Thickener
The most economical thickener for Fiber Reactive Dyes and works as a thickener for other liquids as well, including all liquid Silk Dyes.
