The "Mercedes" of the silks, Crepe de Chine is heavier and more substantial than
the Habotai, with a soft, more luxurious texture. The crepe finish adds a bit of interest and has a more subtle sheen. These are very popular with folks who are looking to dye or paint something nicer, but still very affordable. These have hand rolled hems with 100% silk thread. Ready to dye and paint!
We also have a few sizes in black, by popular demand. They look great when used with some of our more opaque or metallic fabric paints or the foils. Some folks use them with discharge techniques. Just keep in mind that there is never a guarantee that a black will always discharge, because especially with imported stuff, the dye they are using can change. Also, the color you get when you discharge can vary widely, from a light tan to a dark rust brown. Always best to test if you want to discharge a black garment or fabric. We recommend, especially if you are re-selling, to pre-wash in Hot water and Synthrapol or our Professional Textile Detergent, all silk before dyeing or painting to remove any leftover residue from the silk worms (Seracin) or finger prints and other stuff that can cause the fabric to dye unevenly. This is a good medium weight silk scarf. I like the texture. This weave does not have the same sheen found on a smoother weave, but it is nice to wear. I think this is my favorite cool weather silk scarf.

My favorite scarves to dye. I use the Procion dyes (not acid dyes), and even though the colors are mellower, the fabric takes the dye really well. A wonderful weight.

Have used two of these scarves for a dyeing project and was satisfied both with the quality of the fabric and the finished, dyed scarf. Used turmeric on one of them, and the resulting color is magnificent.

wonderful fabric, good price, Dharma is wonderful, sizes of scarves is pretty inconsistent (as would be expected from hand hemming, but is frustrating for stretching...)

Nice weight for a scarf. Its texture varies depending on whether it is ironed or left to crinkle, both are desirable.

I really wanted 16mm but had to take the 12...
It seems that all the suppliers for this scarf are opting out of the high end weight, its unfortunate for me. My customers want and expect quality from me, its just another thing that sets me apart. We all have to do what our customers demand from us. Was this review helpful?

My most recent order of 25 CDCs was noticibly different than previous orders. After dyeing & ironing, the silk felt a little stiff. Did you change suppliers? If possible, please bring back the CDCs you used to sell. BTW, your customer service is exceptional! Thank you.

your silk scarves are always reliable EXCEPT the ones I ordered for the fall did not have natural fibre thread in the hem. People notice! The recent ones were fine.

I love the color but when I put an embroidery hoop on it to make it tight to paint on it it separated the threads. I didn't notice this until I had spent hours painting it. Not a happy camper.

I love CDC. I prefer 16mm & would pay the diffence in price. The 12mm is very & I prefer it to the Habotai workhorse. Works well with dyes or Dynaflow.

The quality is very good. The price is a bargain. If I had bought the fabric and hemmed it myself it would have taken so much time and the hand sewing on the scarf was beautiful. I wear the scarf all the time. I love it.

lovely--you can't have a bad color on these scarves-just be cautious of the colors that are next to each other, so when they run together they make a pleasing combination. I found prewetting worked best for the water color look.

Great Product! I used it as is. No need to dye it or make any changes. Perfect length and wonderfully soft. Beautiful turned edges such nice attention to detail. I'm not keeping your store a secret! The planet must know that you are out here!
