Product Description
When they say "China Silk" this is what they mean. Light weight and semi-sheer with a lovely moderate sheen. It also happens to be very economical so it is great for students and class projects. Everyone likes this stuff; you will too. The 8mm is the one most often seen, and of which our Habotai scarves are made. We also carry heavier weights (10mm-16mm) for when you need more substance, and a lighter more sheer weight (5mm).
Fabric Details
• 100% Habotai Silk
• 8mm, 36", 45", or 55" wide
• You can dye this with Acid Dyes
• We found that this shrinks 10% in Length and 2% in Width disclaimer
• Suggested usage; scarves, pillows, linings for jackets, banners, etc.
• Available in cut yardage and bolts. HS836 runs about 55 yard long, HS855 runs about 53 yards long and HS845 runs about 52 yards long.
• Machine wash in any temperature water

Remember, bolts vary! They can be over or under - we charge you for the actual yardage. If you need very specific yardage, order cut yardage.

I am kind of a fabric snob. Especially with natural fibers like silk and wool. There is a lot of crappy silk out there that feels more like polyester but Dharma has the best!! I bought both the 8mm and 5mm. I prefer 8mm because it is the right weight for my giant silk shawls. If you're going to add fringe or any other kind of trim - get 8 mm. 5 mm is too light for any embellishment. 5mm is really dreamy and soft. Both fabrics have a gorgeous drape. I walked around the house wearing the fabrics around my shoulders when I first got it. The fabric becomes softer after final steaming.

I make solid medieval and Renaissance veils from this and it wears beautifully where the less sheer look is desired.
