5/21/2008This is really a great simple easy to use dye that can be done just in your washing machine. The colors are vibrant on natural fabrics. I dyed a velour shirt and a cotton shirt with turquoise and the color turned out very vibrant and hasn't faded or bled at all. Just make sure you can keep resetting the agitate cycle!

5/14/2008I just used this to dye 2 pieces of Habotai silk AND a large piece of Hemp/Silk blend fabric all in the same dye-bath. They all turned out beautifully...soooo simple and and you have NEVER seen Chartreuse like this!!!! It's gorgeous and I swear it's so vivid you could see it from space!! I'm buying more. It's a great supplement to my dye stock. :)

8/19/2008I love the simplicity of this. With an inquisitive toddler underfoot, it's really, really nice to just be able to throw stuff into the washer! I initially had problems with colourfastness, but that seems to be fixed now that I got some of Dharma's dye fixative.

4/3/2013I dyed 100% cotton according to the directions. The dye is coming off and staining other items, even after multiple washings. I didn't use the fixative, so it's probably my own fault, but from now on I'm using the fibber reactive dye.

2/23/2013No luck. I have a light fuschia 100% cotton sweater I wanted to dye a dark navy blue. I tried the iDye for Natural fabrics, followed the instructions to the T and nothing. The fuschia color is still obvious and the navy is nothing but a light stain on top.

1/22/2013This is pretty easy to use! Although iDye emphasizes how easy it is to use in the washing machine for marketing reasons, it also says in the detailed instructions that stovetop yields Better Results. I noticed that earlier versions of these dyes said it was also good with wool, but I think that they stopped because obviously people were throwing their wool sweaters into the washing machine and felting them by accident :) but dye that works on silk will work on wool. I think you just have to be careful not to 'shock' the wool by raising the temperature from cool to hot slowly and vice versa - letting the dye cool down before rinsing your wool item.
I used the stovetop method with a 58x62" cashmere/silk scarf (the Chan Luu gauzy ones) to turn a orange/chocolate ombre color into an all one color burgundy. I started with the iDye remover also - use this with ventilation - and the scarf turned pale pink and light purple. Transferring it into another pot as to not cool it, I mixed the 'Crimson' color and transferred the scarf in. The only drawback is that the meltaway part of the toss in packet doesn't melt evenly, so you get pieces of that floating around with bits of dye stuck to it. If you're impatient like me, you will feel like you are taking forever to fish those bits out. The scarf was definitely not 2-3 lbs so lots of dye was left over in the liquid. Unfortunately, the scarf was not moving as freely as it should have - one area was stuck together and turned out lighter than the rest but overall it was an easy process. Was this review helpful?

1/6/201390% of the time this is the easiest and best dye, however 8( I've discovered that some colors (violet, darker greens) will fade and bleed dramatically!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10/27/2012I use this to stove top dye silk using shibori method. I think it works great. You must agitate well before using or indeed you will be flecks of color (Dye is not just one pigment, but many that blend to create the right hue). I also have GREAT luck with saving the dye - I decant it back into 1 liter bottles and store it for months (Sealed tightly so it won't go off) and then I reheat it and it works like buttah!
I use salt to intensify the color and instruct my customers to hand wash the items just to be safe. On cotton the colors are a little less intense, but on the rayon/silk burn out scarves the results are FABULOUS! Was this review helpful?

8/8/2012i tried iDye on garments that had been discolored from accidental bleach spills. the dye would not color over the bleached areas. i tried 2 times and left the dye on for several hours. i had used this dye previously on items not impacted by bleach spills and its fine. but no idea why it won't work on previously bleached fabrics.

8/4/2012Love the intense color and the quality of the color.. My notes about use...dyed a t, jeans and silk scarf blank together. I now had the coolest jeans on the planet! Was going to use the fixative, but it said to first put it all through a wash cycle. When the cycle was done, I had the same old jeans as before. All the dye came out. So I am now going to follow the same principle I use when using liquid Jacquard dyes for scarves - after the initial dye, wait 24 hours before doing anything. We'll see if it works. The dye stayed on the t-shirt well. The scarf was so-so, but then with this dye, you are supposed to add vinegar when doing silk, but I threw it in with the cotton which requires salt.

8/1/2012IDye natural is the best I used the machine method and let me tell you I received the most even dye job ever. I took old very high quality bath towels and dyed them to match tassels I have and it match perfect. But a word of advise you have to reset your washer if you want a more vibrant darker color but even if you only let the machine cycle once the color is still amazing
