Setacolor - Transparent & Fluorescent Colors

USE FOR: Heliographic (Sun) Painting, Hand painting, The Serti Technique, Faux Tie-dye, Batik, Spray Bottle Effects

USE ON: All Natural and most Synthetic Fabrics

Setacolor Fabric Paint - Transparent / Fluo 45ml and 250ml are on sale now through June 1st! Stock up now!

The Transparent colors allow underlying colors to show through. Use on white or light colored fabrics. When thinned further with water, they are great for the Serti Technique on silk, hassle free tie-dye, spray bottle effects, batik, splatter techniques, and sun painting (also known as Heliographic art). Select colors now available in Liters! Super soft as paints go, with very little feel on the fabric.

What better fun than to take a bunch of kids and shirts (or bandanas, scarves, whatever), spray or sponge this paint (diluted) on, and while wet, lay on some shapes (ferns, leaves, lace, etc.) in the summer sun and watch the magic happen. Adults will like the results so well they will want to do their own so make sure you have enough paint.

This is also one of our best selling fabric paints for hand painting – one of the softest, with concentrated vibrant yet translucent color on white and light colored fabrics. We also have a kit and a starter set for those of you who want to give it a try. For these, just scroll below the main order form.

The Transparent Colors allow underlying colors to show through. They work especially well on white or light colored fabrics. They are thinner than a lot of fabric paints, but not as thin as so called "silk paints". You can hand paint with them even on the finest of fabrics as they are one of the softest paints we carry (have very little "hand"). When thinned further with water, these are great for the Serti Technique on silk, tie-dye, spray bottle effects, batik, splatter techniques, and sun-painting (heliographic art). The fluorescent colors have the added benefit of glowing under blacklight - great for "scarf dancing"!

The other type of Setacolor, the Opaque Colors cover underlying colors completely, and are use-for-anything-on-anything-in-any-way-you-want fabric paints. Beautiful and versatile.

Setacolor Transparent colors are the paint of choice for Heliographic fabric art - yes, SUN ART. Lay your fabric down outside and sponge on diluted Transparent Setacolor in whatever color patterns you like. Then lay feathers, lace, netting, leaves, precut cardboard, flowers or anything on the fabric and let the sun do the rest. The objects you put on the fabric will leave their impressions. Check out our Sun Painting Start Page for details on sun painting.

Setacolor can also be used for silk screening or stenciling when thickened with 2% to 5% thickener.

Drying: Air dry for at least 1 hour before heat fixing.
Fixing: Three possibilities : with an iron (cotton position), for 5 minutes, on the reverse side of the fabric; in the oven, for ~10 minutes at 300°F (150°C) (stabilized temperature) or 25 min at 250°F, or curing for several days after mixing in our No Heat Fixative.
Caring: after fixing, the colors resist machine washing at 40°C (100°F) and dry cleaning.

OTHER STUFF:

  • Lightening Medium is used to lighten Setacolor Flowable Fabric Paints without making them thinner.
  • Thickener is used to to thicken Setacolor Flowable Fabric Paints.
  • Expandable "Puff" Medium gives you a puffy, raised effect with Setacolor Flowable Fabric Paints.
  • Finishing Gold & Silver is used to add a beautiful layer of shimmering, glittering gold or silver to the underlying color.
  • "No Heat" Fixative makes your paints lightfast and washfast without heat setting. (for handpainting. Traditional heat setting better when sunpainting.)

Very good product, I tried the product out on 100% cotton and the colors turned out beautifully. I heat set them with a hot iron and I had great results. I would recommend them to anyone. They are worth every penny.

I love to use this paint on my silk organza....just wet the silk, scrunch it, dab it with diluted paint, set it in the sun to dry and when you unscrunch it and iron it you have the most beautiful textures on it. Works great on the silk ribbon this way too.

This is one of my favorite paints - good quality, bright clear colors, and one of the softest fabric paints for this consistency. The sun painting you can do with it is a blast for groups!

So much fun! So much less work for a group than tie-dye. We made stencils from sheets of craft foam plus leaves and other objects - even an ipod and headphones! Dark paint colors work best - the contrast is so slight on yellow that it hardly shows, but all other colors gave great contrast. We did find that felt and yarn did not work well for the designs. The craft foam was easy and could be re-used over and over. Clean up was quick and easy and everyone enjoyed the project and their T-shirts. We're looking forward to doing it again next year at our family camp out!

Love these!!! I've been using them on the 5mm silk and on muslin for solar printing. I underdye with buckthorn bark (deep amber very uneven) then use the setacolor over and lay on fairy cut outs, ferns, and grape vines. I can't keep them in stock.

Nice colors. Goes on fabric with sponge brush nicely. Like bleeding effect. Will bleed as it dries at least when diluted. haven't tried sun printing yet.

I thought these paints changed to color in the sun! I didn't think they went on with color! I guess I'm just a novice who doesn't know what I am doing!
